   A general smith does all classes of iron work including horse shoeing. A farrier does nothing else but shoeing horses. After the Boer War there were 1719 donkeys at the late Mr. Coppinger's of Rossmore to be shipped to South Africa and my grandfather took the contract of shoeing them. It took them about three weeks to complete the work.
   In olden times the smiths made harrows, ploughs and spades, ornamental railings and gates. The general work was ornamental railings and entrance gates of different designs. There were railings made here for Cove Cathedral, Mogeela Church and other places.
   The work done by smiths in the open air is banding wheels and shoeing horses in fine weather. Wheels are banded by Mr. Barrett in the open air.
   Forge water is said to cure warts.
