After being out a little while they were followed by a patrol boat that kept them in sight as far as the Old head at Kinsale. After that she was followed up by the Bluebell. The Aud still pretending engine trouble reduced her speed so much that the Bluebell had to keep circling around her. Tiring of this the Bluebell got her in tow telling the captain they were taking the ship to Cork harbour for search. When approaching the harbour the Germans decided to sink her.
The bomb fuse was lit and the crew jumped overboard. The towline was cut, the Aud sunk and the crew were picked up and taken prisoners. It is believed that divers were sent down to precure some evidence that would convict Sir Rodger Casement. One diver man only brought up a rifle. UB98 was a German submarine. She was sunk off the harbours mouth. The English shelled her and blew away portion of her conning tower. Her crew came on deck before she sank and were taken prisoners. The submarine was afterwards salvaged and brought into Haulbowline dockyard and scrapped.
A5 a British submarine had an explosion of gas in her engine room while alongside the Hazard in Cork harbour on the 16th of February 1905. There were seven victims, besides a few injured.
