There is a well outside Ringaskiddy, called "Tobar lIc" from which the local people take their supply of spring water. There was a fish - an eel - in the well and it is still there. People when taking water from the well are careful not to take the fish as it is the belief of the people that the taking of the fish is a sign of bad luck. About 38 years ago a resident took home a bucket of water late in the afternoon. At home she found that she had the fish in the bucket of water. She returned to the well with the water and fish and on the following morning she received news that her son had been washed overboard.
