- The houses in which the people lived in long ago were tatched, The people tatched the houses with wheaten straw. Some of the old houses had a bed in the kitchen. The bed was placed by the wall. The fire was on the middle of the floor. Some of the people had the fireplace at the gable end of the wall. Sometimes the chimney was made of clay and wattles.
Some of the people has no chimneys to their houses. Some of the people had windows with no glass. The people put little timber doors in the windows. Rushes are strewn on the floor. Half-doors were common in the district in olden times. The people used turf and wood in the fires. The people had rushlights to show themselves light at night. Candles were made locally.- Bailitheoir
