Long ago people put straw outside the door on that night for Saint Brigid to kneel on when she came.

Cloyne - Saint Brigid's Day.
The people of Cloyne had many customs on Saint Brigid's Day. Someone tied a black silk ribbon on a line. Next day she took the ribbon off the line, and people believed there was a cure in it for a headache.
The children also went round with a doll dressed up as Saint Brigid. The doll was dressed in white, and each girl wore a white veil on her head. They went round to every house and got some money. If the night was wet the veil that was on the girls' heads would be dry. This cloth was also a cure for pains.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
