   When the Danes came to Ireland in 795 they built castles and strongholds all over the country. They built one in Tubberatureen. It was very big and there were a lot of bedrooms, parlours and halls in it. Many dances and parties were held there. anyone they would wish to take in there, they would have to go or be put to death. Beautiful music was heard there at mid-night. The people residing near the castle often saw people that were dead many years before walking around there. Two brown haired girls were often seen walking through the mountain in which the castle is situate.

   One night two men were going through the mountain. They met the two girls. The men asked them to go in to the castle to dance with them. They refused to go. The girls then beat one of the men and the other escaped. The one she had beaten died. One day a woman from Limerick called the Sheila Wee, stood on the top of crucin and knocked it with a cannon ball. When the walls fell in , a horse and foal jumped out. The print of the horses shoes are to be seen there yet.
