    The drill is hoed round the stalks and any weeds removed. Then they are banked with the plough.
    About June the stalks are sprayed with a mixture of blue stone and washing soda in proportion of 32lbs of bluestone to 40lbs of washing soda and 160 gallons of water to the acre. In the end of Sept. or the beginning of October, the potatoes are raised or dug out of the ground. Tthough this year some people were unable, owing to the bad weather, to put them out until Christmas week. Those who have large quantities of potatoes, dig them out with a digger. Having first wed and removed all dead stalks. Others plough them out, and still others scuffle them out with a kind of plough called a scuffler.
