- (continued from previous page)are kept for covering pits. All the neighbours help each other to pick the potatoes during the month of October. When they are chosen the sound ones are used for eating and for seed and the waste are used for domestic purposes. Five or six people join in a potato digger and the poor people dig them with spades. The potatoes that grow best in my district are Aran Banners, Kerr's Pinks, Champions, Brown Blacks, British Queens, Irish Queens and Gartons.
