  1. Long ago there was a woman who lived in a small farm and her husband died. She had to hire a servant boy to do the work of the farm. He used to hear every night getting up at about eleven o clock so one night he watched her. She faced the dresser and took a bone from it and rubbed it to herself and was changed into a hare. There was a broken pane of glass in the window and out she went through it. He rubbed the bone to himself and he went off as a hare after her to see where she was going. They went into a four acre field and it was crowded with hares. A red-coated horseman was driving them and when the strange hare went in he set them all to and fro so the horseman couldn't drill them. He told them all to run home as hard as they could to see out of which house did the strange hare come. When the servant boys heard the words he ran as hard as he could before her and was in the window before her and rubbed the bone to himself and was changed into a boy again. When she came in she said to him Ah it is well for you that you were before me or I would leave you in hare for life. So he had to leave next day
