- There are not many heroes around this districk. When the sports were held in Rathkeale years ago. A man by the name of Mr. Leahy used to come here from Charleville to them. He used to jump a pole eleven and a half feet.
He used to jump without a pole six feet and a half. Everybody said he was a wonderful man and he won a number of prizes here in Rathkeale for jumping.
This man had two sisters and they, too, used to come to the sports and the people say the girls were as good as the man for jumping. There was another man in Ballingarry named Hourigan and he used to run five miles in the sports.
