- Hallowe'en is on the 31st October. There are many parties held that night, and all the old customs that were observed long ago, are seldom heard of now.
People would gather around the hearth fire tell stories play games and practice many tricks on each other. One neighbour would light a lantern and go around outside another person's house. Gates, parts of ploughs and other farm implements were often taken and hidden away in other parts of the farm.
Another old custom was to get two sticks and put them across each other and tie an apple an onion, an egg shell and a potatoe on the four points, then blind fold anyone who wanted to try his or her luck. The catching of the apple indicated good fortune and happiness, catching the onion foretold worry. The person who got the egg(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
