   There was a woman one time and her butter was gone. She couldn't get it to "gather" in the churn if she was at it 'till doomsday. And the worst of it was that 'twas the same every time she went to churn. Well, one day when they were trying to make the churn in the kitchen, and their hearts broken from failure. In walked a travelling woman. Well you know you should never go into a house where they're making a churn without taking a dreas of the dash. The travelling woman put her hand on the dash, but says she on the minute "It is not good to be at this".

   "And what'll I do", says the woman of the house. "Get the coulter of the plough and redden it in the fire", says the travelling woman, "And when it is reddening, walk down to the bounds (boundary fence) and see for yourself". The woman of the house did as she was told and when she got down near the fence, what did she see but, the ghost of a neighbouring woman, that wasn't dead, and she putting butter back over the fence. The woman ran back and before she had given two strokes of the dash, the churn was full of butter. "Twas then she noticed that the travelling woman was gone.
