   not looked upon with much favour by the local parish Priest. A story is told of one such house which because of certain happenings - not faction fights - came under the censure of the P.P. The latter called upon the owner of this house of evil repute, and looking as grave as an overwrought P.P. could in those strenuous times, declared without preamble or palaver "Inside on the kitchen floor", to the man of the place, "I hear you have a bad house here". "Only come outside 'till I show it to you", said the proprietor, "And 'tis then you'll see how true your words are". Look there's a drop down there and a drop down here, and the thatch is gone by the chimney and " - "That's not what I mean man", says the Parish Priest. "I mean you are keeping a bad house". "Ah, but Father the times are bad, and how do you expect me to make it any better".

   "That's not what I mean", said the Priest angrily, "I mean you keep bad women here". "Yerra Father, bad is the best of them", and from that day to this "Bad is the best of them" has passed down as the final word in a discussion on ladies - where charity was masqueraded (___ ___)
