- A short account of Peter O Neill Crowley may prove interesting.
He was born about ten miles from Youghal and was a great hero.
He was on the run in the year 1867.
He came from Limerick to an old house in Ballinacourty Wood. He remained there for part of a day and he left it in the afternoon.
He travelled from thence out towards the eastern side of Castle Geale and he remained for a couple of days at a house named Hanley's a short distance from the old Castle.
It was reported that he stayed for a couple of hours at a house named Keane in Labba Mologga and returned again to Hanley's that evening.
Short though his absense was, information was immediately taken to a R. M. named O Neill Brown who quickly summoned a military force and Kilclooney Wood was surrounded, then shots were freely exchanged on both sides - Crowley and his comrades being easily outnumbered with the results that Crowley received the fatal blow on the river bank.- Collector
