   The above was one of the most popular songs at all social gatherings, such as weddings and all-night dances, about seventy years ago.
   It was supposed to be composed at Knockagarry a townland in the County Cork and parish of Mitchelstown. This townland was famous for its shebeens, its great musicians and dancers, and the beauty of its girls. Pigotts band of pipers hail from this district. It is quite probable that the above was composed after one of those swaree's.
   J. Kerr, Kilmartin's brother-in-law came from Knockagarry and what is more likely than Kerr took Kilmartin, Tom Brazzill, and others to this rollicking district for a night's carouse.
   Ballingarry meaning Glenbrohane may be meant instead of Knockagarry, but I got the above from Peter ONeill who had it preserved from the Poet's time. Wm ONeill, Peter's father knew Kilmartin well.
