    Many Geraldines and Clann Mac Sheehy fell in the battle. The Head of the Desmond House and Fitzmaurice looked on from Tory Hill. The Earl sent a message to Malby congratulating him on his victory. Malby replied by burning Rathkeale and Askeaton. Desmond never again appeared at the head of an army and in a few years the house of Desmond was finally overthrown.
    The level place on which the monastery was built is said to have been given to St. Malachy by his personal friend Cormac Mac Carthy, and was previously used as a well known place for crowds of people to congregate.
