- The local fairs are held in Nenagh, Newport, Silvermines, O'Brien's Bridge, Bridgetown, Killaloe, Ballina, Scariff and Limerick. The fairs are always held in towns now. Buyers often transacted business at farmers' houses in former times but ti seldom happens now.
All those fairs were held for generations. All the tow fairs are held on the streets except Limerick where the fair is held on the fair green.
Toll of fourpence per head is paid on sheep and cattle, a penny per head is paid on bonhams. The money is paid to a man called the Baron of the town.
Luck is paid on all animals. It is called a "luckpenny" and it is calculated according to the price given for each beast.
