- We keep one horse. In Winter he is put
for the night in a comfortable house called
a stable. The hay provided for the horse
is placed in the manger. By a manger is
meant a timber partition running along
one side of the stable about two feet out
from the wall and three to four feet high.
The oats for the horse is placed in a
box in the manger.
We fodder the horse morning and evening.
If he is working hard such as drawing a
plough or any kind of machine during
farm operations he gets oats and hay in
the morning. When he is not kept busy
working as happens during the Winter
season he gets for fodder hay only. The
stable is cleaned out every day and a
clean bed of rushes is arranged for him.
If a stream is convenient he is taken there
to satisfy his thirst, otherwise water is provided
in a bucket.
The Common Harness consists of: winkers, reins,
collar and hames, breeching and traces.
The Trap Harness is the same except that the
housing is used instead of straddle and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
