Long ago "faction fights" used take place at fairs. In this locality the two parties were the "Magpies" and the "Black Hens". The "Magpies" were the Stapletons and the "Black Hens" were the Kellys. They fought with blackthorn sticks. These "faction-fights" ceased about fifty years ago.
