    "Ireland, dear Ireland my country,
    Why from you did I wander or roam,
    Or bid farewell to my wife and my children,
    Or shut my eyes on my dear happy home,
    It was the work of my cursed oppression,
    Caused me to leave home with a sigh,
    To seek bread for my poor hungry children,
    Or on the roadside some day they might die.
