- An old man described to me how rush candles were made. A rush was got and peeled. Some of the peeling was left on to prevent it from breaking in the middle. Then the fat of a piece of bacon in a skillet- that was what they called a three-legged pot and melted it. When it was melted the rush was put in the dripping. After a couple of minutes it was takekn out and left it to dry. When it was dry it was laid by with other rush candles in a jam-pot.
