    In olden times the people had great faith in the power of God and his Saints. Long ago the Saints blessed wells. The wells were much used for curing sore eyes and other diseases.
    We also hear in this district of another cute for a burn. It consists of boiling ivy leaves and then mixing them with lard. Probably in every place in Ireland is the old cure for a bleeding nose, that of putting something cold like a penny or key down one's back.
