  1. The Carmelite Mon.
    It was erected by the Butlers in 1300.
    Donogh Houlihan was its last prior Its site was where the Cath. Church built in 1807 stood. That year a small portion of a stone wall with a circular doorway of chiselled limestone was then standing. It was pulled down to make room for the chapel. It looks as if it had a tower, says map of 1819 behind the church built in 1807.
    The castle at the Bridge. Archdall says belonged to the K. Templers, The one at West Gate is called the Black Castle. Barracks were built beside it in 1840. North of the castle on an open space near the Barracks stood a beautifully constructed moat of earth 100' high with a spiral path from base to top. it was destroyed in 1800. About 40yds south of Black Castle was a round building called Crowe's Tower, from a man Crowe who once lived in it. it stood on the town lawn to the right of the road to Cashel + is roofed in + occupied in 1840. There was another Castle at the Prot. Church, another on the Dublin Road.
