- The school is built in the townland of Brickendown. This is a fairly large townland. There is an old church called the Church of Brickendown situated on Mr Quinn's farm and near his residence which is called Mayfield. In fact the name "Mayfield" is now generally given to the townland. The church is in ruins and of old type, rectangular, small, with a small portion cut off as if for sacristy or sanctuary. All the corner stones are gone but there is one little window bordered with cut stone and of beautiful proportion yet remaining. There is a graveyard adjoining which is still in use. In the field near by there is a well called St. Bricins well. It is covered with stone and there is a fairly strong stream flowing from it. Beyond the name there is no tradition about it. There are no prayers etc said there now.
