   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   Exiled from the land of my fathers
   In a far foreign country I roam
   And tho' I was destined to leave thee
   I ne'er shall forget thee -my home;
   Nor the village where oft in my childhood
   Wild, reckless I gamboled & played
   The maiden I courted in boyhood
   And the hawthorn dell where we strayed.

   But here as I toil for the stranger
   In forest's primeval alone
   My thoughts wing their way over ocean
   To joys and to times that are flown
   And I see at the bend of the road

   And the murmuring brook by the way side
   Which glides past her peaceful abode

   And fancy as if to deride me
   Again puts her hand into mine
   And I listen the oft-murmured whisper
   "Ah Willie! for ever I'm thine"
   When from my day dreamings I waken
   Missouri hard by rolling on
