- Soap-making.
This is the old time system of soap-making. When there was no other way of making soap, but by the hand, any cattle that would die, the people used to boil the "hoofs" and "hocks" into jelly, this jelly used to be strained and put into a "laid" and a small share of tallow and bees wax added to the jelly, and the three ingredients boiled together, and while in a soft state, it used to be put into moulds and left cool. They used to make five and ten lb bars. The hoofs of the animals were called, Ruicini
