the ear + killed instantly, Welland being hit in the hip lived for nine months. A slug of Swedish (Cut iron) entered the cup of the hip.
After the shooting the attackers dispersed - all in different directions. Hickey went to the Glen of Aharlow where he was treated by Doctor Ryan a Tipperary Doctor who was put out of Dundrum Dispensary and consequently was no friend of Welland. He picked all the shot out of Hickey's face + made him perfect again.
Billy Walsh of Ballahurst ran to Tipperary to the fair (the victims of the shooting had been going when attackes) He ran from Denis Hickey's house Ballinard, to Tipperary town in Seven and half minutes, an amazing feat and on reaching the town he went directly into a bunch of cattle owned by Greene of Green-Park + tried to disperse the herd. He was immediately arrested by the police - which was his object in beating the cattle, as he could not be expected to be in Tipp at that time if he had taken part in the shooting. A Policeman afterward ran the same journey in much the same time to prove that it was possible for Walsh to be in both places. He fell dead however on reaching Tipperary. Corbett went to Bishopswood.
Ryan Mongo was at this time employed by Sir John Fitzgerald - Sir John the Flogger of Lisheen and proceeded cooly to his work. On hearing the news Sir John came to Mongo. "Did you hear of the shooting Ryan!"
