the horse and went on. He came to the king's palace. It was a beautiful building but no music was to be heard and it looked lonely and dreary. There were guards outside the gates and Jack went in. He told the king what he wanted. The king said that if he brought back one princess he would get 1/3 of the kingdom and if he brought back the three he would get all the kingdom and one of them in marraige. "Very good" said Jack and off he went. The road was getting narrower and the country around wilder, and when he looked up he saw a big black castle up on a cliff. There were big gates outside and Jack could not open them so he left his horse and climbed in. He knocked at the door but he got no answer. Then he caught the knob and to his surprise it opened. He went in all over the house and at last he found a beautiful girl spinning inside. She told him to fly for his life. "Indeed I wont" says Jack, "until you come with me. Ar'n't you one of the king's daughters "I am", says she, "and the eldest," Just them they they heard a sound like thunder and they saw a big giant coming along. Jack ran out. The giant threw his big club at him but it only hit the wall and knocked it. The dog's held and knocked the giant. With the first blow Jack cut off his leg and with the second he cut off his head.
