- Long ago it was a custom to have spring water in the house during the night.
About eighty years ago there lived in Killerk, in the County of Clare, a woman named Mrs. McGann. She lived with her son Michael. One night on the first of May, she forgot to bring in the spring water.
On the following night she went to the well as usual, but when she came to the threshold the bucket fell and the water was spilled. She went to the well again, but the bucket fell at the same place again.
During the night her son was call. When he went out he saw fairies hurling. When he went out he was ordered to get a hurley and to go hurling, and when the match was finished, the fairies told him that his mother was unable to bring in the spring water last night because she had not brought it in on the night before.
