“In olden times shops were not as plentiful as they are now...”
In olden times shops were not as plentiful as they are now in country places. Some people used to have shops on a very small scale. No one would know from the outside that there was a shop within as there would be no goods displayed in the windows. It would be no use having a large shop then as the people would not buy as plentiful as they do now. Very little tea or sugar was then used in some homes only at Christmas. My mother told me she hears a very old woman to say that when she was young that the tea that would be left after Xmas would be put to keep until Xmas come again.- Bailitheoir
