- It is an old custom in Ireland to make crosses on Saint Brigid’s Eve in honour of her. The cross is made of rushes or wood and hung up on the rafters of the house. The wood is cut and shaped and nailed and then it is blessed with holy water. After that the four corners of the cross are blessed again with holy water. Then the place where the cross is going to be hung up is blessed and the cross is hung up. People say it is a sign of good luck to have a cross.
