    The buachallán, praiseach bhuidhe, the nettle, the thistle, the dock, the fern, and the feilistrium are herbs that are damaging to land because they cover a lot of ground and if allowed to grow unchecked they will eventually spread over the whole pasture land.
    For a long time those herbs, or weeds as they are sometimes called, were allowed to grow from year to year by the majority of Irish farmers.
    Of late years the Government have brought up a bill, whereby it is an offence for a farmer to allow these weeds to grow unchecked.
