- Conán was one of the Fianna Éireann. He was a great glutton and never satisfied but when having a big feed. He had a bad tongue also. He came to Sliabh Callán with Fionn MacCumhail when he was pursuing Diarmuid and Gráinne. He died with the hunger and he was buried on the west side of Sliabh Callán. Fionn was glad to be rid of him as he used to eat as much as six men and "what fear" he would rise again they put a big flag down on him. There is an inscription in Ogham on his tomb.Áine Ní Chathasaigh, Eanach, Sráid na Cathrach
In the year 1844 and 1859 Professor Clooney of the Catholic University visited the spot and translated the inscription as follows:- FAN LIA DO LICA CONAF (n)
COLGAC COSOBADA (c)="Under this stone is laid Conaf (n) the fierce (and) turbulent."A portion of the stone was broken off and he substituted the letter CThis extract is taken from Frost's History of Co. ClareM. Ó Críocháin O.S.
