- It is said that there is gold hidden in the Rath in Rathealy. the Irish people hid all their gold and valueable things in it, the time they saw Cromwell's army coming. A lot of Irish people that were killed by Cromwell's Soldiers left their money in the Rath.
The people in olden times often made attemps to get it but all they got was a feather bed. It is also said that Mr. Muldowney went to dig for it one night but when he came to the passage he got afraid to go any further and he covered it in again and he never got anything in it.
There is supposed also to be many treasures hidden by the monks in the moate a little outside the village of Tullaroan. When the people heard of Cromwell's soldiers coming they also gave all their money to the monks to hide it because they ___ no banks at that time.
