- There was many a hurling contest long ago between Kilkenny and Tipperary at a place called Loyhans a level plain very near the town of Urlingford. Crowds of people often walked ten or fifteen miles to see those matches.
There were no goalposts in those days or no certain number on each team but an even number on each side. The hurling was from ditch to ditch and very few flat hurleys were used only what was called wattles, long ash sticks with a thick or knobby end on them. My Great Grandfather often hurled there.- Bailitheoir
