- Long ago people had never more than 3 meals a day - breakfast, dinner and supper. They had breakfast at 8 o'clock but before having breakfast they had always 2 hours work done. They had dinner at mid - day and supper when they finished work at 8 o'clock.
They eat porridge made on water to their breakfast and it was counted a novelty to have buttermilk porridge. Very seldom they had milk to take with their porridge but had what was called "bull - milk." This milk was oat - meal steeped over night with water. They drained the water from the meal and this water was known as "bull - milk". They did not eat porridge in the autumn but eat potatoes at every meal.
They had potatoes for their dinner They eat potatoes in their shape boiled. They peeled the potatoes with their nails and dipped them in salt. They never had butter to eat or milk to drink with the potatoes. They used what was called a "rod - table". This was a large basket made from sallie - rods. They sat round this table on small stools.
