- In this district when a person dies, the hour at which his soul departed is marked by the stopping of all clocks in the house. These clocks are not wound again until after the funeral. All the mirrors are covered till the remains leave the house.
Formerly, during the early days of my grandmother from whom I obtained this information, it was customary to have "keening" at wakes. Three women, gathered at the bedside and with their hands stretched on the corpse chanted twice what was known as the "Song of the three Virgins. Herewith are some of the words but according to my grandmother there are more words but she disremembers them.
