  1. There are three fairy forts in this district.
Two are called by mounds and the other is called a fort.
There are two of them in Killencoole and the other is in Tarpeth.
They are not in view of one and other.
    They are circular in shape.
There are no fences of earth or stone around it but there are fir trees growing on beside them.
There is an entrance hole at the side called a cave in the one in Tarpeth that you can go in about three or four yards and then it seems to be closed up and you can see no more after that.
People have gone in to the fort and there names are
    Barney Boyle,
    Killencoole,
    Readypenny,
    Co Louth.
    Jack Hanlon,
    Killencoole,
    Readypenny,
    Co Louth.
    John Carlon,
    Allardstown
    Dundalk
    Co Louth.
There are stories attached to them.
The Danes are supposed to have built them.
When the people saw a cat or dog or any other animals at the fort they said it was a fairy who took the form of an animal.
