- Collon, my native parish, is situated in the ancient kingdom of Oriel. The village grew early in the twelfth century, when it was owned by the Cistercian Monks of Mellifont. There are about one hundred families in the parish, and a population of about six hundred. The family name most common in the parish is Taaffe. The Parish stretches as far north as Funshog, south as far as Crosstown, west to Meades' of the "Mill", on the Drogheda Rd. as far as Carrick-an-éan, and eastwards as far as Downeys(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
