A boy was out gathering sticks one day...

A boy was out gathering sticks one day on the hill and he caught a leprechaun and did not let him go until he did something for him. The leprechaun gave him a purse of gold and a tablecloth and every time he spread the cloth food came on it
On St John's Night big fires were lit bonfires. The people gathered heather and furze bushes and old timber in a big heap after nightfall and lit them They danced and sang round them
Sometimes they shake holy water on the fire after lighting in the field the cows are milked. An old furze bush is lit off the bonfire and dragged through the fields in which were the oats and potatoes and grass. The cows and horses were struck with the bush too and they said "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost so that the crops would not be lost.
