- This Castle is one of the best preserved landmarks in the county. It was the country residence of the Archbishop of Armagh and was probably built in the 13th or 14th century. It afterwards passed to the bishops of the Protestant establishment. In earlier times there was a convent at Termonfeckin which was founded by the McMahons, and in (-) St. Feckin established a monastery in the same district. No traces of these remain.Blessed Oliver Plunket is known to have resided in this district for a time.
