- The biggest shipwrech I ever heard of was the wreck of the Belle Hill at the Blacks Rocks, Balbriggan, about the year 1860 or 1870. All the crew was drowned. It was blown in on the rocks in a gale and smashed to bits on the rocks.
Another shipwreck was the Mitcham which ran ashore at Baltray and was wrecked. The people on comming down to gather the wreckage made a gap. Up to this day the place is called Mitchams Gap.
