“It is said that King James watched the Battle of the Boyne from Donore Churchyard.”
It is said that King James watched the Battle of the Boyne from Donore Churchyard. When he saw that his men were being beaten he fled through Donore on his way to Dublin. The people in Donore asked him how the battle was going on and he said "It is all done over". It is believed locally that that is how Donore came to be called 'Donover'.It is still called 'Donover' by older people, and some of the carts have 'Donover' on them.- Bailitheoir
