- The men started work at 6 o'clock. A pot of oatmeal stirrabout was boiled for their breakfast and a ring of saucepans and a can of buttermilk together with the stirabout was taken out of them about 7 o'clock.Dinner.
Dinner consisted of potatoes - a basketful of them. A wooden plate called a Trenchard of butter and a can of buttermilk. Extensive farmers kept a donkey and car for carrying the food to the fields.Evening Meal
When the dinner was over the stirrabout for the last meat was put on. This was eaten about 7 o'clock.Bread
Wheaten Bread wet with water and a little salt and baked on a griddle. no soda.
One stone of flour was used for one cake. baked on the griddle.
