- Garrett Reilly has lived for some years in Kells. He says the following story is quite true:
The parish priest of Kells and his uncle lived together but did not agree.
The P. P's servant waites on the curate also but left the place after a while and took up a situation in a Dublin hotel.
Meanwhile the curate died. The ex-servant while carrying on his duties in
Dublin met the curate one night face to face. Oh father said he, I was told you were dead. Oh yes I am said the priest, but I want you to do something for me. Go to St John's churchyard, take my body out of its grave there and bury it in the chapel. Go! said the priest and everything will be done for you.
The man went back to Kells got the 3 other men, appointed by the curate went to the churchyard, found the grave opened took the coffin carried it to the church & found the vault there also open.
A man named Murtagh one of the men who helped in the removal told this to Mrs Reilly. It seems the P.P. wouldnt allow the body to be buried in the church, at first.- Faisnéiseoir
