- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)wire called nail rod. The nail rod was heated in a forge fire until red. It was then pointed on a special anvil with a hammer. It was taken to a special knife, placed on the cutting edge at the length required, and almost severed with a blow of the hammer. Next there was a mould having a hole down through it and having a flat metal plate on top. The nailrod was placed in the hole of the mould, broken at the knife mark and the head hammered against the iron plate while the iron was still red.
