The cowhouses are long sheds with a cement floor and one window.
In winter daddy gives the cows mashed potatoes and turnips and oil cake. He gives the cattle hay. He gives oats and hay to horses, ponies and asses.
The cows and calves are tied to posts with a chain. The chain is tied round their neck.
On St. Bridget's Day there is a straw cross hung over the door of the cowhouse. On May Day there is mountain ash hung over the door and primroses are sprinkled outside the door for luck.
The horse stable has a manger in it. Daddy puts hay in it for the horse at night.
The horses are brought to a forge to be shod. The farmer clipps a horse twice a year with a hair clippers.- Bailitheoir
