- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The cows head was in between the stick going up and the bar of iorn going down. A pin fasened the stick at the top. It was a bad way to tie cows because they could not lie down.
It is not common to see an emblem in the byre but sometimes an elder branch is tied in it with a red rag. It is hung there to keep witches from taking the milk.
If a man had a spite to another man he would rise very early on a May morning, and get a straw and tie nine knots on it. Then he would go to the well the man used and throw the straw into it and then milk the cows before sunrise.
Another custom is to tie a red rag on the cow's tail after she calves to bring the butter back.
The house the horse lives in is called a stable. Every horse has its own stall(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
