When the people died their houses were burned, and the sites of them are still to be seen. There is one in Tullyarren, Mullagh, Kells, Co. Meath. The goverment paid relief to the very poor people during the famine, and when they stopped paying it great number of them died. No one knew at that time what caused the blight, but the people spray the potatoes twice every year now
