“A prophet named Nicholas Mooney...”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)seventy years of age when he died. A story is told about the way this prophet got to be one. One night he was herding cows in the townland of Shancor in his young days. This night one of the cows had come to the prophet. A bull came out of the air and dropped down beside the cow. After staying a while with her he disappeared in front of Meldrum's eyes. The day after, the prophet told the Parish Priest what had occurred the night before. The priest told him to watch the cow and in nine months when she would be calving and taste the first drop of milk. He did so and after that he became a prophet and could prophecy anything after. He prophecied a great number of things and some of them came true some of them have to come true yet. Here are some of them that he prophecied. He said that Kingscourt Church would be built and it never would be finished. He said that there would be war and every lake would be filled with dead bodies and that the Spanish horses when running down the hill going to the lake would be kicking up gold with their feet.
